BREAKING: LABOUR PARTY SLAMS MIMIKO OVER COMMENTS ON DEFECTION

The Leadership of the labour Party,(LP) has berated the former governor of Ondo State,Dr Olusegun Mimiko over comments credited to him in the media on his defection to Zenith Labour Party.

Speaking through the Publicity and media office of the party, the leadership of the labour party frowns at the recent actions of the former governor, saying the party would not accept further comments that may give wrong impressions to the public.

The party also said, it expected the former governor to move without dragging labour party into any image battering as 2019 general election draw nearer and  that such  comment was not healthy for  the party which Mimiko rode on to become one of the most celebrated governors in Nigeria.

‘’We want to say emphatically that we are not happy with comments credited to the former governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko on his defection to Zenith Labour Party. What we expected from as a leader like him was to exit the party if there were genuine reasons for him to leave and avoid dragging us into unnecessary controversy. Labour party has always supported any agitation to better the welfare of Nigerian workers and will continue to protest the interest of the labour force in Nigeria.’’

It would be recalled that Mimiko joined the party in June, some months after his tenure expiration in office as governor under the national leadership of Alhaji A.A Salam who is recognised by Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), and was an active member of the party who also indicated interest to vie for the Presidential seat of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of Labour Party.

‘’The party calls on Mimiko to tell us why he stayed in the party and made up his mind to contest for Presidency if there was crisis as speculated by him.And we also want to let him know that INEC only recognises Alhaji A.A Salam leadership of the party and his position on another person laying claim to the party leadership is not tenable.’’

The party hereby restates that there is no leadership crisis as speculated by Mimiko and there was  no plan to hijack the party by Adams Oshiomole’s leadership of the APC.
’’Our party under the leadership of A.A Salam  is set to come out victorious in the 2019 general elections and we are not deterred by his exit from the party, as that is a good radiance to bad rubbish, because we are equally up to the task.We wish him good luck in his continous political adventure.’’
