BREAKING NEWS: Reps Issue Bench Warrant for the Arrest of Magu Over Refusal to Appear Before It

Acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

Following his refusal to appear before it to answer questions regarding a petition filed by the former first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the House of Representatives committee on Public Petitions on Wednesday issued a bench warrant on the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, The Independent has reported.

The bench warrant will force him to appear before the committee. While issuing the arrest warrant on Wednesday, the committee noted that four letters of invitation had been sent to the EFCC chairman with acknowledgement copies without Mr. Magu attending the hearings which have held three times.

The motion for the bench warrant was moved by Hon. Kingsley Chinda (PDP, Rivers), and seconded by Hon. Brown Randolph also from Rivers.

Chinda said: “It’s not only for the workings of this committee but for any other institutional body.‎ So I move that the EFCC chairman be issued a bench warrant to appear before this committee to explain his role so that we can conclude this investigation”.‎

It would be recalled that the former first lady petitioned the House wherein she alleged incessant and unwarranted harassment of her person, businesses and family members by security agencies
