The Peace and Security Forum (PSF) says the number of prison inmates in Nigeria has increased from 65,000 to 72, 000 in two months.

In a statement signed by Prof. Oshita Oshita, Director-General IPCR on Wednesday, the PSF made the observation while deliberating on conflict and security matters.

NAN reports that the PSF bi-monthly meeting is organised by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), with support from Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) ongoing in Abuja.

The forum which asked the federal government to take urgent actions to support the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) described as the worrisome condition of inmates in the Nigerian prisons.

Going further, the forum also encouraged state governments to support the efforts of the federal government by providing essential logistic support to the NPS.

On the insecurity in Southern Kaduna, the director general noted that the forum has resolved to join hands with the Kaduna Government in finding lasting peace in the state.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s progress in curbing militant attacks hasn’t much boosted its oil output. A report by Bloomberg indicated that Nigeria hasn’t much boosted its oil output even as militancy in Niger Delta has reduced.
